System Requirements

The minimum system requirements for running Accelerus are listed below. While these are the minimum requirements, computers with greater processing power and RAM are recommended for Accelerus administrators, especially in large schools.

minusAccelerus administrators' computers

The minimum hardware requirements are:

Quad Core processor
4 GB RAM
Hard Disk Drive with at least 1GB available

The following software must be installed:

Microsoft Windows 7, Windows 8 or Windows 8.1
Microsoft Word 2010, Word 2013 or Office 365 (Although Word 2007 may be used, it is not a recommended version)
.NET Framework 4.5.1 Client or later

minusWhere a school is using SQL Server

Accelerus may be run with two types of database: an SQL Server or an Access database.

Where an SQL Server database is to be used, Microsoft SQL Server 2008, 2008R2, 2012 or 2014, including Express editions of these, may be used.

Warning

Where an SQL Server database is to be used, your school is responsible for SQL Server licensing, installation, configuration and maintenance. The school must have the necessary SQL Server administration expertise to create, maintain and backup their database, and attend to issues directly relating to the use of SQL Server. Accelerus support does not include assistance with these.

minusTeachers computers when using offline files

The minimum hardware requirements are:

Intel Pentium 4 or faster processor
1 GB RAM
Hard Disk Drive with at least 500 MB available

Software requirements:

Microsoft Windows Vista or Windows 7 or Windows 8
.NET Framework 4.5.1 Client or later

minusWhen teachers are using the web

When a school is using Accelerus Web and teachers are assessing their students via the web, teachers’ computers do not need to have any additional software installed. They simply need to have a web browser.

The Accelerus website's Latest Version page contains documentation for technicians on requirements and instructions for setting up Accelerus Web.

Warning

Web browsers that may be used by teachers include Google Chrome, Safari, Firefox and Internet Explorer 10 or above. Internet Explorer 9 or earlier versions are not supported. Users of Chrome, Safari and Firefox are expected to keep their version up to date.

If teachers are using Internet Explorer, you must ensure that they are not in compatibility mode. To do this:

In Internet Explorer, press F12 and a panel will open at the top or bottom of the screen.Tech IECompatabilityMode
Click Browser Mode in this panel.
In the drop down list, change the selection from the Compatibility Mode setting to just Internet Explorer 10 or 11, as the case may be.

minusMissing prerequisite software?

Computers running Windows Vista, 7 or 8, together with Office 2007, 2010 or 2013, will usually have most of the other necessary prerequisite components such as the .NET 3.5 Framework required by Accelerus, although the .NET 4 Framework may be missing.

Where a computer does not have the required prerequisite software, with the exception of Windows, Word and SQL Server for which the school must have its own licences , the missing components will usually be installed automatically by the installation process prior to the installation of Accelerus itself.

Tech InstallMissingComponents

Note that while it is not usually necessary for a school to install these prerequisite components separately, it may be necessary for some computers and the installation process will inform you that this is the case. For example, with 64-bit computers it may be necessary to install .NET 4 separately before you can run the Accelerus installation.
